Tour Features
Your Grand Canyon adventure begins bright and early from Page/Lake Powell, Arizona, where you check in at 7:00 AM for your Colorado River Half Day Float Trip. After a brief motorcoach trip through a 2-mile tunnel carved into the canyon wall, you emerge at the base of the Glen Canyon Dam, where your river rafts await you. About an hour down the river, you take an easy ¼-mile guided walk into a side canyon where the Anasazi Indians carved mysterious communiqués into the rock, hundreds, maybe thousands of years ago. Back on the river, you glide between canyon walls rising hundreds of feet into the sky. As you round Horseshoe Bend, keep your eyes peeled for eagles, hawks, herons, even condors. At Lees Ferry, a historic river crossing, your float trip concludes - but your day's fun has just begun!
From Lees Ferry, you take a short drive to the Marble Canyon Bridge, where you have the opportunity to gaze at the Colorado River from 400 feet above it. You can also shop for hand-made arts and crafts at the many Native American kiosks. After about a 45-minute break, it's time to press on. At this time you'll be served a box lunch to enjoy on your way to your next stop: Jacob Lake. On the journey there, you witness dramatic geological transitions as the terrain rises 4,000' and desert gives way to forest.
You'll make a brief stop at picturesque Jacob Lake Inn, where they still make their cookies and pastries from scratch in the bakery. Pick up a sweet treat to save for dessert that evening. From there, it's another hour to our final destination - Grand Canyon's North Rim and Imperial Point. Here, you begin to see why so many people say this is the most beautiful part of the Grand Canyon. At 8,000', the North Rim is cooler, more lushly forested and less crowded. Listen hard and you might hear the song of a canyon wren.
After giving you plenty of time to take in the view and take pictures, you're off to the Grand Canyon Lodge where you then have about 3 hours of free time. Shop for Southwestern mementos in the gift shop; take a leisurely stroll along the canyon rim and Bright Angel Point; kick back in a lounge chair and marvel at the view from the lodge's famous rotunda. Enjoy a sit-down dinner in the fabulous Lodge Dining Room, or grab a burger or sandwich at the café. At about 7:30 PM, it's time to head back to Page. You'll be dropped off at your hotel at about 10:00 PM.
